So, you're thinking of joining? Well, that's just awesome. We'll keep this as short and sweet as possible so you can get on your way. Most of it is common knowledge, but consider this a refresher. At the very worst, at least skim them.
Once again, we'd like to welcome you to The Walking Dead. When registering your character, you may register with any name that you’d like. We have no rule on what your display name is. As this is a proboards forum, you do have the ability to change your own display name. When applying, please be sure to fill out all the required portions of the application... which is everything, in case you were wondering. Post it in the appropriate section and you'll be good to go. Please give us at least a day to look it over before freaking out about being accepted. We will definitely get to you because we love new people to rp with, seriously.
We don't have any rules on the number of characters you can have, but we do ask that for every two females you create, you make a male character to go with them. If you absolutely suck at men and have a great new female to introduce, PM an admin. We can make exceptions. We only have this restriction to try to even out the playing field a little bit since most sites get overrun with women pretty quickly and all.
We encourage short term characters, seeing as this is a Walking Dead site. Many background characters will be killed during the game. For storyline purposes, we expect to see some characters handled by real members to be killed off. This is only optional, however, and you may keep your character alive as long as you want.
Also, we HATE Mary-Sue's, so please just don't do it. You know better. Dean Winchester is not automatically going to fall in love with you. Make your character diverse and interesting and we'll totally love you a lot more for it.
Once your application is finished and accepted the first thing you have to do is fill out the claims section, and the who's who forum. If you do not fill out the face claim and someone else joins and wants your claim then you will lose it.
We absolutely understand that you have a life outside the rp world. That's cool because we definitely do too. That being said, we do expect you to actually show up every once in awhile because what's the point in joining a site if you're just going to disappear. We ask that you post at least two times a week if possible. We understand what it's like to have a muse that's MIA, but that cannot be a regular excuse. We do ask a little more from the people that hold a wanted character position. For those individuals, we would like to see you here at least three times a week with a legitimate, in character post. You're driving the other character's plots forward and nobody likes a stagnant character. Am I right?
The first thing you should know is when you create an account here, you have 48 hours to put your application in. Sometime between the time that you put your application in and 24 hours from then you will receive a response.
We are a beginner/intermediate/advanced level forum. Anyone can join and have fun. Someone is always here to help so don’t be afraid to ask.
Girl / Boy ratio is also very important. If you like to run multiple characters the first two may be of the same sex, but if you take on a third they must be of an opposite sex.
Godmodding is FORBIDDEN, unless you have permission.
Don’t sit around and wait for things to happen. Start threads, jump in on open ones or send PM’s. Get in the mix and start enjoying what we have to offer as soon as you're accepted. Don’t forget to add a plot page.
There is no minimum posting requirement for The Walking Dead. Word counts are silly.
If you go for a complete 15 days without logging in and not letting us know that you are on an absence, your account will be deleted. We know that sometimes lives get busy but asking one log in every fifteen days at the very least is not much to ask of anyone.
If you are going to be gone for a few days or weeks even please post in the absence forum at the bottom of the site. And please change your display name to your characters name with (Away) after it. IE Maggie Greene (Away). that way people will know not to add you to any storylines while you are gone.
Always respect the staff and other members. If you are discourteous, offensive or intentionally disruptive you may be removed from the game at admin discretion.
If you're having a bad day, my advice is to keep clear off the board. We don't want or need unnecessary fights. This is a place to have fun.
We would also appreciate if you don't spend your whole time on the c-box, keep in mind that you are here to roleplay and it's not nice to keep others waiting for a long time.
Here in The Walking Dead we have 2 different types of threads. The Traditional Thread and Walker Threads described below.
Traditional Threads
These threads are the basic threads you see in every rp site. You start one and mark it either as Open, or Tag it for those you want to reply to it. YOU CAN fight in these threads, with permission from the other handlers of course.
Walker Threads
Staff members will be handling the “Walkers” account. What this account does is interfers with open threads. If you would like a walker free thread, please either tag someone in the title or put in parenthesis “(No Walkers)” at the top of your post. Walkers will randomly attack a person or a group of people in a thread. Staff will give you hard choices to make, often moral struggles, that you will be required to make to continue the thread. Do you save the lovable nerd who’s good with gadgets or do you save the accurate marksman? These are choices you will face in this site. If you would like to get attacked by walkers, please private message the walkers account.
Story
We have an underlying story that pushes this site forward. READ IT. You can't change it to focus around your character. We encourage you to fit in and become a big part, but the story is the story. Also, we plan well into the future so if we have plans for something we try to keep it a secret not to ruin the story for readers. However we may have to turn down some of your ideas due to contrast with these plans. IF YOU WANT TO DO SOMETHING MAJOR, contact us first. If you start a thread where you're killing a character, please let a staff member know before hand.
Canons
This site is loosely based on both the show and the comic book, but mostly the show. You may take available canons, but please remember to portray them as they would be on television. Carl wouldn’t make a necklace out of squirrel ears. Obvious failure to write a character properly may result in termination.
Background Characters & NPCs
We provide background characters and NPCs for your use. NPCs for the most part are random characters you can use in your rps or make your own, while background characters are a bit more important, but we still encourage you to use them as long as you don't try to kill, maim or change them in some major way unless they are your creations.
Wanted Characters
All The Walking Dead's wanted characters are created by players or the admins/mods. All are original. Some are quite open to player interpretation and are mostly just a quick way to get players involved. Others are required to fulfill a specific plot requirement for a player like love interest, rival, friend these will be less open to interpretation and the player who made the character has final say over whether changes can or cannot be made. You'll need permission from the creator to make big changes such as leaving a faction.
Few last notes on wanted characters:
To be able to add a wanted to the site the user must be active. It really sucks for someone to take a character and then the character creator goes inactive.
Also, because of the entire idea of wanted characters any time someone leaves the site that was controlling a wanted character the creator of said character will have the option of reposting them as wanted characters again.
Also if if you happen to take an wanted character and the character creator leaves the site. The character then becomes your character and you gain full control. It changes from wanted character to a free character.
Please do yourself a favor and think about these details before taking a wanted character. At any time if you have a wanted character, the character creator can decide they don't like how you’re writing it and take it back, placing it back on their wanted character list. Don't take one if you’re not willing to write the story they want.
In the game, we encourage you to be involved with groups. If you would rather go at it alone, then staff will be happy to roleplay out encounters with background characters that you may choose to end to your character’s group. Remember that in every open thread, there is the possibility that your group will be attacked by walkers. Chances are, this means one or a few of the background characters in your group will die. You may only kill a background character if you created him or her. Walkers will enter the thread under the account “Walkers”, which is operated by all of staff.
You also have the option of joining an existing group given that you have permission from either staff or the group itself. There is no limit to how many members a group can have. However, we ask that you try to keep the site balanced. There shouldn’t be an overwhelming number of members in Rick’s group compared to a villain group.
We do ask that you have at least an avatar to represent your character on the board. But it is not required. Avatars may not be bigger than 200x320 and that's the size that we would. Signatures are not necessary if you don't really want one, but who wouldn't? As long as they don't stretch the board and contain no nudity then they are quite alright with us.
Now, on to the face claims. This part is insanely important. They have to be real celebrity. We don't do cartoon characters, anime peeps, or MySpace kids (who uses myspace anymore?). Seriously, could you imagine finding your face representing a demon on a site? It'd freak me out too. As far as celebs go, we're not going to tell you who you can and can't use. Certain wanted character face claims are negotiable. Just pm the character creator if you're not an especially big fan of the one assigned to your chosen character. Canon face claims are not negotiable.

Nat- Admin/PR/Story
Stef- Graphics Mod/PR
Listed above are the staff member and what they do. If you have a problem please find the staff member best suited to handle it. For example if you are being harassed by another member of the site then you would take your complain to any staff member with PR listed beside them, instead of the story guys.

Mature content is FORBIDDEN. Drug-use and cursing should be kept at a minimum.
