The Setting

The Walking Dead tells the stories of groups of survivors living in the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse. Most of the story takes place in the Atlanta metropolitan area, and then the surrounding countryside of Northern Georgia as the survivors search for a safe haven away from the shuffling hordes of predatory "walkers" who devour any living thing they catch and whose bite is infectious to humans. The plot is focused primarily on the dilemmas that their groups face as they struggle to balance their humanity with their survival against the zombie horde, and later how they cope with members being killed and deal with other human survivors they encounter, many of whom are dangerous and predatory themselves.

In this world, a virus has broken out turning people into mindless shells of the people they once were. They are hungry. What do they eat? The living. A walker bite will not only kill you, it will turn you into one of them. It will turn you into a flesh-eating, emotionless monster. In this world, movies like Night of the Living Dead or Dawn of the Dead do not exist. People don’t know who George Romero is. These creatures are something people have never even imagined before and yet it has become a reality. The only way to kill them is to shoot them in the head. Noise attracts them, so don’t be shooting off guns willy nilly. That’ll get you killed. Or worse.

Walkers are not the only thing you should be worried about. There is also the living. They’re all trying to survive. People do things they usually wouldn’t do. People die. People die all the time now. One day your friend is next to you talking about how things were before and the next he’s dead. That’s the world you’ll live in. Some people will lose it. Most people will. Their minds, their lives, or if they stick around long enough, both. Who can you trust? Who will trust you? And are there people out there who are willing to kill you to survive? You’ll find out soon. You’ll see why they say fight the dead, fear the living.

This site is loosely based on both the television series and the comic book written by Robert Kirkman, taking place roughly four months after the initial infection. Rick’s group has left the farm and our journey continues there. We will not be following the show. Instead, we will go our own path. Be careful though. Every choice you make matters. Throughout your experience on this site, staff will ensure that your character(s) is/are faced with difficult choices. They will have to make tough, moral decisions that will affect your story greatly. The Walking Dead is not just about survival. It’s not just about the walkers. It’s about people and how they are changed when their lives are drastically changed forever. You spend all this time living in fear, hoping for the best, but deep down, you know what happens. You’re the living walking among the dead, but how long before you die? What happens when you die? You become one of them. You’re trying to survive when the outcome is the same no matter what you do. Don’t you get it? You ARE the walking dead. YOU are the walking dead.
